Andrzej Golota (also known as Andrew Golota) is a retired Polish professional boxer who competed from 1992 to 2013. He was born on January 5, 1968, in Warsaw, Poland.
Golota had a successful amateur boxing career, winning the Polish Championship and representing Poland in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, where he reached the quarter-finals. He turned professional in 1992 and quickly established himself as a formidable heavyweight, winning his first 28 fights, including victories over notable opponents like Riddick Bowe and Tim Witherspoon.
Golota gained notoriety for his two bouts against Riddick Bowe in 1996, both of which ended controversially. In the first fight, Golota dominated Bowe but was disqualified in the seventh round for repeated low blows. In the rematch, Golota was ahead on the scorecards but was disqualified again in the ninth round for low blows and later ignited a riot by throwing a chair at Bowe's corner.
Golota went on to have a mixed career, plagued by inconsistency and personal problems. He retired in 2013 with a professional record of 41 wins, 9 losses, and 1 no contest, with 33 of his wins coming by knockout.
